Abstract
Research is a process of searching knowledge sys tematically and objectively using scientific knowledge and required rules. Research method is closely related to the procedures, instruments and research designs. Procedure shows the research sequences of research activities involved, research instruments, techniques used in mea suring sequences collecting data, while research method guides the researcher to accomplish the research. Research design, then, encompasses planning and operational process of the research.
Many people confuse research procedure with research method and research method with research design. This iscunderstandable because it is not that easy to draw a clear line between them. A discussion on research method entails discussion on techniques, procedures and research design.
Currently, research design is classified more on the basis of the nature of the problem, techniques and instruments used, place of research, time allot ment and area of research. Based on the above considerations, there are at least five research methods: Experiment, Ex post facto, Descriptive, History, and Participatory.
